Mahfuza Ema

Clinical Trials Assisstant

With a strong desire to help people and contribute to improving healthcare, Ema pursued a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at the University of Dhaka, graduating in 2018. During her clinical training, she developed a growing interest in research and began to see how scientific evidence underpins effective patient care. This led her to move to the UK to undertake an MSc in Life Sciences (Translational Medical Research) at the University of Glasgow in 2019.
Following her postgraduate studies, Ema worked in laboratory and clinical data-focused roles, including as a Laboratory Scientist at the University of Glasgow and later within NHS clinical laboratory services. While she valued the scientific and analytical aspects of her work, she realised she wanted to be more directly involved in patient care and see the real-time impact of research.
This shift in focus led her towards clinical research, where she could combine her scientific background with patient interaction. When she came across the work of the EMERGE team, she recognised it as the ideal environment to bring these elements together.
As a Clinical Trials Assistant, Ema values the unique challenges of conducting research in the fast-paced, critical environment of the Emergency Department. She is committed to understanding how research can be effectively integrated into urgent patient care and contributing to innovative studies that improve outcomes when it matters most.
